WENDY WEATHERBY

Musical Director

 Wendy Weatherby is a singer, cellist, composer and teacher who qualified with a BA in Music Performance from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama ( now the RCS ) in 1983 .

ABOUT WENDY

Although a classically trained cellist, she has taught and performed in many musical styles, including singing trad jazz and touring Europe and the USA  with Mike Hart  ( the founder of the Edinburgh International Jazz Festival ), and singing Burns songs on the acclaimed Linn Records  The Complete Songs of Robert Burns  .
Numerous  recordings include her as a cellist or vocalist, as well as a string arranger ,and she has 5 solo albums to her credit, two of which are of her own commissioned compositions for the Celtic Connections festival - Daybreak on the World's Edge, and  Sunset Song .


Wendy's theatre work includes  Bill Bryden's  The Ship  and The Big Picnic - epic productions at the Harland and Wolff shipyard  (The Shed)  in Glasgow, in which she both  sang and played - excerpts can be seen on Youtube !
Other theatre work includes Wildcat, Communicado, Wee Stories, Catherine Wheels, Foolish Notion and Cultural Connections -  productions in which she either performed in  or composed for or both.


.Wendy continues to collaborate and perform with renowned  Scottish storytellers Andy Cannon and David Campbell. She is the Scots Song and Cello tutor at the National Centre for Excellence in Traditional Music (NCETM ) in Plockton, and performs with her own band , The Wendy Weatherby Band, which includes the Vintage Chorus accompanist, Sandy Brechin.


The Vintage Chorus is an important part of Wendy's musical life - a lovely bunch of folk, embracing a lovely bunch of songs, and most of all, great fun !
